Rory Brown Joins Climate Action Pathways for Schools as Development Director

Education is crucial to protecting our environment, and investing in our youth is essential to developing the leadership needed for a sustainable future. The newly appointed Development Director at Climate Action Pathways for Schools (CAPS) is driven by this vision. With over 21 years of fundraising experience, Rory is committed to helping students discover green career pathways while empowering schools to become pivotal agents of climate action.

Rory joined CAPS in July 2024, bringing extensive experience as both a consultant and a development director. Before taking on this role, she advised Executive Directors of emerging organizations on board development, finance, income strategy, stewardship, and event sponsorships. She also served as the Development Director at Beyond Emancipation, an Alameda County organization supporting current and former foster youth in their transition to independent adulthood. There, she successfully built an individual donor program that quadrupled giving in five years while enhancing development operations and managing diverse fundraising channels.

A native Californian and textile artist, Rory settled in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2000, drawn to its unique blend of urban vibrancy and natural beauty. Her commitment to sustainability extends beyond her professional life. As an advocate for conscious living, she incorporates eco-friendly practices into daily routines, from minimizing waste and supporting local businesses to making mindful choices about energy use and transportation. This personal dedication to a sustainable lifestyle not only informs her work but also serves as a model for others striving to live in harmony with the planet.

In her new role at CAPS, Rory is a key leader responsible for driving the strategic direction of the organization’s fundraising efforts. From building relationships with donors and corporate partners to organizing fundraising events and collaborating with the board of directors, her work will be vital in securing the resources CAPS needs to continue its mission. Her ability to align the board and engage corporate giving initiatives will further enhance CAPS’ impact in developing tomorrow’s climate leaders.

With a passion for creating opportunities for students while fostering environmental stewardship, Rory is poised to help CAPS scale its efforts and shape a future where education, sustainability, and equity go hand in hand.
